Stochastic Modeling of TCP/IP over Random Loss Channels

چکیده
An analytical framework for modeling the performance of a single TCP session in the presence of random packet loss is presented that is based on a semi-Markov model for the window size evolution. The model predicts the throughput for LANs/WANs (low and high bandwidth-delay products) with good accuracy, as compared against simulation results with ns simulator. Generally, higher speed channels are found to be more vulnerable to random loss than slower channels, especially for moderate to high loss rates.

Stochastic modeling of a single TCP/IP session over a random loss channel
In this paper, we present an analytical framework for modeling the performance of a single TCP session in the presence of random packet loss. This framework may be applicable to communications channels that cause random packet loss modelled by appropriate statistics of the inter-loss duration. It is shown that the analytical model predicts the throughput for LANs/WANs (low and high bandwidth-de...

An analytical framework for modeling the performance of a single TCP session in the presence of random packet loss is presented. A Markovian approach is developed that allows us to study both memoryless channels (i.i.d packet loss) and channels with memory (correlated packet loss) modeled by a two state continuous time Gilbert model. The analytical results am validated against results using the...

متن کاملModeling TCP SACK performance over wireless channels with semi-reliable ARQ/FEC
Providing reliable data communications over wireless channels is a challenging task because timevarying wireless channel characteristics often lead to bit errors. These errors result in loss of IP packets and, consequently, TCP segments encapsulated into these packets. Since TCP cannot distinguish packet losses due to bit corruption from those due to network congestion, any packet loss caused b...
متن کاملA stochastic model of TCP/IP with stationary ergodic random losses
We consider here a ow control mechanism in which the rate at which data is sent increases linearly in time until a loss occurs. At that point the transmission rate decreases by a multiplicative factor. This mechanism is a good approximation to TCP/IP, the congestion control in the Internet. Losses are generated by some exogenous random process, which is assumed to be stationary ergodic; no Mark...
